Hybrids from Ford recalls


Ford Motor Co. will recall 6.164 Escape Hybrid sport utility vehicles built in Claycomo plant. According to the United States traffic Agency, these units need to be inspected due to the possibility of fracture of shaft drivetrain reported. Fracture that is attributed to improper installation of the shaft.

The recall includes all wheels version of the Ford Escape Hybrid 2006 the petrol-electric SUVs manufactured from July 28, 2005, through April 21, 2006. The withdrawal of these vehicles is scheduled on or before October 23.

According to Kristen Kinley, spokesman for Ford, Ford built about 20000 hybrid escape in 2006 model. However, only 6.164 it will be inspected Ford. The information was provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Such inspection is triggered by a handful of reports that have invaded Ford. In fact, the company has identified 14 reports of the problem through its internal database. Kinley still added: "there was no report of damage or accidents."

The failure of shaft drivetrain to work is attributed to wrong installation and inadequate heat treatment. Moreover, according to the Agency the fracture may have resulted in the SUV cigarettes after the gearshift lever is placed in the "Park".

During the retreat, Ford will replace fractured or damaged shaft drivetrain. This was the Declaration was made public by the NHTSA last Monday in Washington. Aside from the axle drivetrain, no other part hybrid Ford Escape were reported to have discrepancies.

Ford said dealers will inspect the affected Escape hybrids and repair them if necessary, at no cost. In addition, the owners of affected vehicles may contact Ford at (800) 392-3673.

The recall will only include a slice of 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid production and will not affect its sister vehicle-Mercury Mariner. The latter was also manufactured at the Claycomo, Missouri and was produced only as vehicles of all-wheel-drive.
